Encounter with God!
Kevin shared Joel’s story. Joel was a freshman from Pennsylvania that came to the University of Alaska – Fairbanks (UAF) to study wildlife conservation. When I met him on move-in day, he was dressed in black from head to toe. When I told him I was a leader with XA, the Christian ministry on campus, he quickly told me that his dad was a member of the church of Satan. After inviting Joel to a XA event that evening, I thought it would be the last time I would see him. Then with a series of God-orchestrated circumstances, Joel and I became friends. I began understanding the core of his struggles through our time together. Because he came from a broken family with many bad influences, he had “given up” on anyone that could care about him or his future.
As the weeks went by, Joel joined my small group, and I asked him to join us for our fall breakaway retreat. While at the retreat, he experienced an encounter with God! Joel, who once was totally against being a part of any religious organization, surrendered his life to the true and living God. Joel continued to grow in the Lord. He became a small group leader and led more guys into a relationship with Christ! Joel and his wife now work for the university administration at UAF. Their passion is to see more students encounter God just as they have experienced Him.
Prayer
CMC: Please join me in praying for Chi Alpha’s Campus Missionary Conference, July 25-29, Phoenix AZ.
We meet every four years for an all-staff conference. Currently, there are more than 1400 staff and 500 children registered! Please pray for a wonderful time for families to be refreshed and friendships to grow. And most importantly, pray for the Holy Spirit to minister deeply in our hearts. Pray for fresh vision and equipping for our staff to make a powerful impact for God’s kingdom on campus this fall
Gregg’s Greeting
Happy July 4th! We hope you enjoyed your holiday celebration of the freedom God has given us in our country. Our life in the USA is incredible, but it pales compared to the freedom and life we have in Jesus Christ. We have freedom from the penalty and power of sin. And one day, we’ll have freedom from the very presence of sin. We were born for the glory of God in this life and more so in the life to come. Freedom in Christ is the most glorious freedom of all. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
Thank you for your faithful and generous partnership with us. It’s a joy to work with Kevin and Lindsay Welch from Alaska. Thank you for helping me to help them reach more students like Joel with the love and message of Jesus Christ.
Have a safe and blessed summer!
